

His story begins during the late 18th century Louisiana. The story is told from Louis’ perspective to a character only referred to as the “boy interviewer,” who Louis meets in a bar in present day (1976) San Francisco. At the center of her tale is a dysfunctional relationship between vampires who live as a dysfunctional family unit: Louis, Lestat, and Claudia. They’re depicted as having human flaws and feelings.


Rice’s story explores vampires as having a society that exists beside the human world. The book’s pages are filled with rich, poetic prose, philosophical musings and debates, and good old relationship drama. Rice’s debut is a page-turner, and every chapter develops the story deeper.
